We work to restore the voices and stories of those who lived within West Virginia’s state hospitals, ensuring they are remembered with honesty, dignity, and truth. Our efforts include preserving and organizing historical records, reconnecting families with lost histories, advocating for those affected by institutionalization, and drawing connections between past systems of care and present realities. WVSHI exists to ensure no one is forgotten and that what was lost is no longer ignored. 

Riverstone Community Services
Riverstone is the operational branch of WVSHI Inc., providing emergency assistance and direct support across West Virginia. As the service arm of the organization, it operates programs such as the Kids Thrive Program and the Essential Needs Assistance Program. We address urgent needs by supplying food, clothing, and household items, and by making direct payments to utility providers and mental health care providers. Our focus is on delivering immediate help with respect and purpose.
